GARMENT CONSTRUCTION INTERN

We are currently seeking students/graduates to get involved with creating our Spring Summer 2013 collection for an in-house photo shoot in June. Students will gain an invaluable insight into the day to day running of a young trend driven start-up company that specializes in selling digital sewing patterns on line.
Successful candidates will assist with toiling, technical drawings, pattern cutting, hand sewing and sample construction.

We encourage the growth of all our interns by offering in-depth tuition in the following areas, as thanks for their valuable help:
Print design and development;
Digital pattern cutting;
CAD and digital fashion illustration including flat drawings;
Double layer corset construction;
Software packages such as Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Dreamweaver /web design & HTML;
All expenses paid

About the company:
www.Ralphpink-patterns.com was launched in July 2012 by Fashion Designer Ralph Pink. It specialises in digital sewing patterns in the following categories; couture, corsetry and high-end trend-led RTW. Our audience is steadily growing and includes enthusiasts, young designers and industry professionals from around the world. We are a fledgling company with a huge potential to grow rapidly within our sector and we are looking to recruit young ambitious individuals who are willing to learn and develop with us. We have produced a blog which sits alongside our products. Its purpose is to analyse emerging garment-trends, advertise our products and keep our users up to date with all of the latest news and fashion gossip. This role would assist with the development of this blog.

Successful candidates would be expected to assist with:
> Seasonal trend reports; helping to put together collated trend information into interesting and informative image-based reports to be hosted on our blog page.

> Maintain our online presence via Twitter and Facebook on a weekly basis with product information both past, present and future, including development of a “what’s hot” list for upcoming designers. You would be more than welcome to suggest new ideas and new ways of reaching a greater audience for our products.

> Assist in writing interesting and informative captions about each product, both past, present and future.

> Become the avatar for our online blog, including your own profile page and images. Any magazine or promotional articles written about our site would feature you as the lead blogger and contact.

Work both from home and in the office as required.

You would receive:
> Further in-depth training in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Webdesign, videography, graphic design and basic SEO.

> Reimbursement of all expenses incurred.

Candidate requirements:
> Passion for trend led RTW fashion.

> Have an already functioning fashion blog.

> Excellent English and grammar, with an enthusiastic writing style.

> Working knowledge of Adobe Illustrator and Indesign.

> Studying, or have a degree in, Fashion Journalism or Fashion PR and Marketing.

WELCOME: It’s been a few months now since we launched and the response has been huge! and when I say huge, I mean huge! I just want to say a big thank you to all our existing followers who have been there from the very start and a massive welcome to all of you that have just found us. The fact that we have had such a great response means we are finally able to start the next chapter in our journey as a start-up company.
WHAT’S NEXT: We have so many ideas in the pipeline of how to create a truly unique, original product and online experience for our customers. we have a whole range of ideas and new products that we are currently developing and testing… which we will slowly implement into the site. The sad part is we can’t tell you everything just yet, but we can give you a few snippets:

TREND ANALYSIS: We intend to bring you the best designs and burgeoning trends from around the world… To do this we will be fine combing New York, London and Paris Fashion Week for inspiration in the form of: colour; silhouette; key details; fabric choices; prints; and of-course, our picks for best of season… All this, just to produce an exclusive collection, for the commercial RTW section of our site, not to mention giving you an in-depth insight into our design process. We’ll be immersed on a daily basis feeding you the tastiest morsels of cutting edge couture and ready-to-wear trends via our blog, Twitter and Facebook feeds.Through this research and development, we will be adding to our existing RTW designs by bringing you not one, but two seasons of gorgeous patterns per year (spring/ summer and autumn/ winter). Because we work with the trends you get brand new fashion forward patterns that are original and on season when they hit the site in Feb 2013. We will also give you insight and suggestions into what material, colour and possible print to use for your each seasonal pattern. Essentially we are a designer brand that designs garments for the runway. The only difference is that you make the garments. I get around forty e-mails a day just about corsetry alone. There are a lot of people out there that are desperate for some really stunningly designed corsets. So this is why we have started production on a brand new range of fashion forward corsets, corsets you wont find anywhere else. The collection will comprise eight fully graded couture corsets (size UK4-14), with in-depth instruction sets, built to further your knowledge and push your construction ability. We will be launching these early 2013. So keep your eye’s out for all our updates.

S/S13 TREND OVERVIEW

Contrast trims and borders create dynamic patchwork injections of graphic colour to kimono’s, vests, tops, shift dresses and especially sarong style skirts: A simple yet versatile detail for S/S13.A heavy focus was placed on necklines this season, especially intricately detailed halter necks styled on dresses and tops; continuing the décolletage trend. The use of weaving, folding and interlocking delicate straps looked fresh for both casual and evening wear a perfect detail for all-day ensembles.A dramatic yet feminine detail this season as the balloon sleeve returns yet again. This detail worked perfectly on structural cover-ups and jackets constructed from wool, heavy satin and neoprene, creating a smooth crisp look. Seam detailing was in the form of raglan, leg-of-mutton, dolman and bats wing styles, including the use of stiffened shoulder patches and contrast materials.

Collaging of textures, stripes, prints, lace and more was seen as a massive trend this season. A useable detail on a variety of garment types, but with special focus on structural asymmetric shift dresses and strappy camisoles: An exciting mix up for S/S13.

This season we see the return of the Kimono sleeve; focusing on wide openings and slashed diagonal drops, for dresses tops and cropped outerwear. Fitted, body-con silhouettes help to emphasize this stand out style and are built using structural fabrics to create a pristine clean look for S/S 13.

The translucent veil is a leading design detail this spring, with sheer transparent fabrics, yoke inserts, floating panels and faux necklines. Contrast opaque panelling, divided by mesh or organza looks particularly fresh for S/S13.

Double slits felt right this season, as a new key alternative for skirts and dresses. Double slits added length to legs and hourglass curves to seamed dresses. Design details such as zippers and buttons allowed adjustment for customisation. Materials included twill and soft cotton.

A huge contender for the hotspot this season was the stiffened peplum. Peplums are built in to tops and, dresses and jackets. Similar peplum details came in the form of softer flatter ruffles in taffeta and silk with bell shaped maxis.

A gorgeous new key look emerged this season, in the form of the exposed decolotage. creating a beautiful new detail to play with and we believe this detail will do well in 2013. Variations are apparent with disconnected and cut a way sleeves. Fine shoulder straps suspend and add further design dimension. Roland Mouret’s cut-out peekaboo necklines and collar, add a fresh feel to this detail for S/S13.

Crisp lace-like cut-outs are a strong focal detail for all garments this season, although more prominent around the neckline and chest. Leather Neoprene and other stiffened materials seem to be the preferred material choice.

Sheer extended hems are a serious must have for this season! Use transparent and slightly opaque layers to add a sultry sexy detail to mini dresses, shorts and skirts. Fabrics come in the form of tulle, chiffon, organza and mesh. Layering patterned or devore fabric can create a gorgeous dimensional cut-out effect.

Bows are built into the construction of garments across the board, skirts, coats, dresses, pants and blouses. Softly structured organza bows, create beautiful depth and a fresh feel, over matching organza shirts. Oversized, flattened bows sit close to the body in matching fabrics, carefully placed on necklines, plackets or waists: A really simple but effective trend setter for the season.

Minimalist, clean and elegant column dresses and playsuits emerge as this season’s new trend, with the cylindrical shape being key. Dresses fall from the shoulders, slightly cinching at the waist and then drop to the floor; this particular look is very versatile in both evening and day wear.This trend focuses on silhouettes borrowed from classic men’s cuts and utilises the slouchy oversized boyfriend look. Styles include boxy trousers, shrunken jackets and oversized outwear. Pockets are an essential detail for this trends slouchy style.

A-line silhouettes look fresh and crisp in new stiffer structural fabrics. Triangular or trapeze shapes extend from under the arm and waist. Materials include heavy denims, leather, and neoprene; it’s all about structure this spring.Spring summer 13 featured a brand new look with long cascading layers of chiffon and veiled materials. Styles include floor length tops, multi-length layered dresses and open front light outerwear.

Body-con silhouettes follow the body’s natural curve, but stay fresh by keeping it loose and fluid, unlike previous season’s skin tight silhouettes. Key items for this trend include pencil skirts and coats with curved seams that follow the waist and hips. Belts and strapped waist cinchers add yet more figure accentuating details.Essentially all about smooth shapes and curved off the shoulder styles, in structural fabrics. Narrow at the shoulders and neckline then ballooning out around the body and then sliming to the body at the hem. Curved sleeves are definitely key, working particularly well for outerwear and cover ups.

Minimalist clean and simple…. pair modern boxy shoulders from the 80’s with pencil thin bottoms in the form of skirts and trousers to achieve a striking look, this season.Handkerchief hems and cut about silhouettes make a dramatic entry this season with overlapping sharp lines or off balanced garments. Particular emphasis has been placed on one side of the body with pleats, tucks and sleeves.
