Amayo drape sewing pattern

Skill level: Beginner

Amayo is simple and quick to make, which makes it a strong choice for newer sewists. The garment is built from just three pattern pieces and does not need buttons, zips or closures.

For the easiest version, choose cotton poplin or another stable woven fabric. If you are more confident, use chiffon for the body and satin for the cuffs and collar to create something softer, lighter and more fluid.

Fabric requirements

Option 1, one fabric:

• Main fabric: 140 cm / 56 in wide × 240 cm / 95 in

Option 2, two fabrics

• Fabric 1: 140 cm / 56 in wide × 160 cm / 63 in
  Fabric 2: 140 cm / 56 in wide × 200 cm / 79 in

Fusible interfacing

• 140 cm / 56 in wide × 200 cm / 79 in

Use cotton poplin for a cleaner, easier first version. Use chiffon for the body if you want more movement and sheerness. Use satin for the collar and cuffs if you want contrast, shine and a slightly more dressed-up finish.

For extra detail, add light to moderate bead placement in a colour that works with your fabric.

Amayo is available in XS–L / UK 4–18 / EUR 32–46 / US 0–14.

Choose your size by comparing your bust, waist and hip measurements to the size chart. The fit is loose and draped, so fabric choice will change how the garment falls: stable cotton will feel cleaner, while chiffon and satin will feel softer and more fluid.

All sewing patterns are drafted for a dressmaker’s B cup, so fuller cup sizes may need a full bust adjustment.

Amayo is a drape pattern with a soft shape and a clean construction path.

The kimono-inspired silhouette gives it ease. The stand-up collar gives it structure. The optional split cuffs let you make the sleeves feel lighter, while the rolled hem keeps the finish simple.

Make it in cotton poplin if you want the easiest sew. Use chiffon for a sheer, flowing body. Add satin at the cuffs and collar if you want the details to stand out. The pattern can move from beach cover-up to bedroom gown to evening layer depending on fabric and styling.

This is a good pattern for beginners who want a relaxed project that still feels worth wearing.
