Arani dress sewing pattern

Skill level: Beginner / Intermediate

Arani is approachable, but the neckline deserves care. The body is simple and clean; the peplum collar is where the project becomes more interesting.

For an easier version, make the body in a stable woven fabric such as linen or cotton poplin. If you want the neckline to feel lighter and more fluid, use chiffon for the peplum section and take your time cutting, pinning and pressing.

Fabric requirements

• Fabric A, body: 140 cm / 55 in wide × 190 cm / 75 in
• Fabric B, neck ruffle: 140 cm / 55 in wide × 75 cm / 29 in
• Fusible interfacing: 28 cm / 11 in

The sample uses medium-weight linen for the body with chiffon peplum details. Linen gives the dress structure without making it stiff. Chiffon keeps the neckline light, soft and more dramatic.

For a cleaner first version, use cotton poplin or linen for the body. For the peplum, choose a fabric that can hold movement without adding too much bulk.

Choose your size by comparing your bust, waist and hip measurements to the size chart. Because the body is cut on the bias, fabric choice can affect how the dress hangs, stretches and skims the body.

All sewing patterns are drafted for a dressmaker’s B cup, so fuller cup sizes may need a full bust adjustment.

Arani is a dress pattern with a simple body and a statement neckline.

The bias-cut shape keeps the dress soft and flattering without adding darts. The mandarin-style collar gives the neckline structure. The double-layer peplum adds movement, lift and the kind of detail that changes the whole mood of the garment.

Make the body in linen for an easy polished version. Use cotton poplin if you want more control. Add chiffon at the neck when you want the peplum to feel lighter and more fluid.
