A three piece couture corset pack

Body armour is a three piece pack: a hybrid Victorian corset, a neck corset and structured shin pads. It was first made for a London Fashion Week collection. It is an advanced project.

At a glance

Body Armour is built for experienced makers who want a project with presence before the first seam is sewn. The pack includes three separate pieces: a Hybrid Victorian Corset, a plunging Neck Corset and structured Shin Pads with knee detailing. Together, they create a high-fashion armour silhouette that sits somewhere between corsetry, costume, couture and sculpture.

Skill level & tips

Skill level: Advanced

Body Armour is for experienced sewists with corset construction behind them. This is one of the most complex pattern packs in the collection, using structural corset-making techniques, three-dimensional shaping panels and Ridgeline boning to create sculptural form.

If you want a simpler route into advanced corsetry, start with a historic corset first. If you want the challenge: the full build, the separate armour pieces, the shaping, the lacing, the structure. This is the one.

Coming from a modern corset? Read modern and historic corsets: the difference, and which to sew first.

Fabric usage & suggestions

Hybrid Victorian Corset:
Structural coutil: 140 cm wide × 140 cm
Decorative fabric: 140 cm wide × 98 cm

Neck Corset:
Structural coutil: 140 cm wide × 21 cm
Decorative fabric: 140 cm wide × 21 cm

Shin Pads:
Structural coutil: 140 cm wide × 26 cm
Decorative fabric: 140 cm wide × 26 cm

Fabric suggestions:
Use coutil for the structural base of each piece. The armour needs support, shape and discipline; the coutil is what lets the form hold.

For the outer layer, choose a decorative fabric with drama but not bulk. Satin gives it couture polish. Cotton keeps the construction crisp. Mesh, lace or chiffon can soften the surface. This is also a strong project for controlled contrast, quilted texture, panel emphasis or dark, architectural fabrics.

Supplies & equipment

  • Paper scissors
  • Fabric scissors

  • Boning cutters or suitable pliers
  • Tools required by the individual included pattern packs

For what each item does and the amounts for every pattern, read our corset making supplies guide.

Sizing & fit

Body armour comes in a single size. Each piece fits the measurements below.

The Hybrid Victorian Corset is listed for approximately Bust 32–34 inches, Waist 25–26 inches, Hip 34–35 inches.

The Neck Corset and Shin Pads are listed for UK 8–12 / US 4–8 / EUR 36–40.

Because this is a structured multi-piece armour project, fit testing matters. Make a toile, check the corset lift, cross-over lacing, hip shaping, leg holes, neck corset placement and shin pad closure before cutting your final fabrics.

Long description

Body Armour is the pattern pack for makers who want the project to feel ambitious before the fabric even hits the table.

The centrepiece is the Hybrid Victorian Corset: part historic corset influence, part modern armour. It uses decorative piping across the bust, side panels and hem, cross-over lacing for fit control, leg holes to help the piece stay in place, and hip shaping that pushes the silhouette into something boxier, sharper and more sculptural.

Then the build keeps going. The Neck Corset adds a plunging V-shaped panel with shoulder extensions and back lacing. The Shin Pads bring vertical boning, knee padding, piping and laced closures into the lower body. Each piece has its own presence. Together, they become a full look.

This is not quick. It is not casual. It is not the project you choose when you want an easy win.

It is the one you choose when you want to make something genuinely exceptional: corsetry as armour, pattern cutting as sculpture, and construction as the whole point.

Advanced, yes. Worth the challenge? Completely.
