Bollego corset sewing pattern

Bollego is for makers already familiar with historic corset construction. It is possibly the most challenging pattern in the historic range because of the diamond waist panel that sits on top of the corset body.

You’ll work with a spoon busk, spiral steel boning, vertical piping, bias binding, lacing and layered shaping. The challenge is control: keeping the waist panel sharp, the piping clean, the structure even and the silhouette balanced.

This is not the project to rush. It is the project to earn.

Fabric usage:

• Decorative fabric: 140 cm wide × 85 cm
• Structural coutil: 140 cm wide × 127 cm

Fabric suggestions:
Use structural coutil for the base layer. Bollego needs strength, stability and discipline; the coutil is what lets the shaping, spoon busk, piping and diamond panel hold properly.

For the outer layer, choose a decorative fabric that can take structure without becoming bulky. Satin gives it polish. Cotton keeps it crisp. Lace or mesh can soften the surface. Devoré net can add texture without overwhelming the lines.

This is a corset where the construction is already decorative. Let the fabric support the architecture.

• 970 cm × 0.2 cm nylon rope for piping

Bollego is the showpiece for makers who like a difficult pattern for the right reasons.

The silhouette is late-1800s drama: curvaceous bust and hip shaping, a narrowed waist, a spoon busk at the front and fully boned construction doing serious structural work. Then comes the detail that changes everything — the external diamond waist panel, sitting over the corset body like armour cut on the bias.

That panel is the challenge. It has to sit cleanly. It has to work with the piping. It has to sharpen the waist without fighting the rest of the corset. This is where Bollego earns its place at the advanced end of the collection.

Make it in satin and the shape looks rich. Use cotton and every line becomes crisp. Add Devoré net or lace and the texture softens the surface without hiding the architecture.

Bollego is not quick, not casual, and not trying to be easy.
