Divinia drape sewing pattern

Skill level: Beginner

Divinia is designed to be simple. The garment is built from only three main panels, so the construction stays approachable even if the finished piece looks more dramatic.

The main thing to watch is fabric handling. Chiffon and satin can shift while cutting and sewing, so pin carefully and do not rush the long seams. If you want an easier first version, choose rayon or light cotton before moving into sheerer fabrics.

• Main/body fabric: 140 cm / 56 in wide
  UK 4–12: 1.6 m / 1¾ yd
  UK 14–18: 2.1 m
• Main/body fabric: 115 cm / 45 in wide
  UK 4–12: 2.2 m
  UK 14–18: wider fabric needed
• Second fabric / contrast layer: 140 cm / 56 in wide
  UK 4–12: 1.6 m / 1¾ yd
  UK 14–18: 2.1 m
• Fusible interfacing: 91 cm / 36 in wide
  UK 4–12: 0.3 m
  UK 14–18: 0.5 m

Use satin and crepe chiffon for a softer nightwear version. Use rayon, chiffon or light cotton for a more relaxed beach cover-up. The sample uses a green satin yoke with a sheer crepe chiffon body and matching tassels.

Divinia is available in XS–L / UK 4–18 / EUR 32–46 / US 0–14.

Choose your size by comparing your bust, waist and hip measurements to the size chart. The fit is relaxed and draped, but the belt openings let you pull the shape in at the waist.

All sewing patterns are drafted for a dressmaker’s B cup, so fuller cup sizes may need a full bust adjustment.

Divinia is the kind of drape pattern that looks more dressed-up than the effort behind it.

The shape borrows from kimono and cape styling, with enough flow to feel soft and enough waist shaping to stop it disappearing into the fabric. Make it sheer and sensual in chiffon. Give it a satin yoke for contrast. Add fringing if you want the movement to go further.

It works as nightwear, beachwear or a loose summer layer over simple pieces. The construction stays beginner-friendly, but the fabric choice decides the mood.
