An underbust corset for your first make
Grace sits between a corset and a waspie. It is a simple underbust build with a closed front and no busk, and it is dramatic enough for burlesque styling.

Skill level & tips
Skill level: Beginner
Grace is ideal for first-time corset makers who want to learn proper modern corset construction without starting at the hardest end of the craft. You’ll build confidence with two-layer construction, internal boning placement, back lacing, eyelets, and clean bias-bound finishing, the core methods that support the rest of the modern corset range and make the transition into more advanced corsetry much easier later on.

Fabric usage & suggestions
Fabric usage
Decorative fabric: 140 cm wide × 42 cm
Structural coutil: 140 cm wide × 80 cm
Fabric suggestions
Use structural coutil for the strength layer. That is what gives Grace the support, stability, and body it needs. For the outer layer, choose a lightweight fabric that suits the mood you want: satin, chiffon, lace, cotton, or another lightweight woven all work well when paired with a stable base.
Grace is especially strong as a decorative project because the closed front gives you uninterrupted space to work with. Lace placement, beading, appliqué, contrast panels, trims, or bold fabric choices all work beautifully here. Lace appliqué or placement instructions are not included in the pattern.

Long description
Grace is what happens when an entry-level corset refuses to feel entry-level. It takes the clean, teachable structure of a beginner modern corset and gives it a more theatrical mood: an under-bust shape that curves beautifully around the back, frames the bust line, and lands somewhere between corset and waspie.
The closed front is one of Grace’s biggest strengths. Without a front busk interrupting the design, you get a clear decorative surface for lace, beading, appliqué, or bold contrast fabrics. It gives you all the satisfaction of surface design without cluttering the structure underneath.
Grace is also a strong first build for makers who are drawn to corsetry for the drama as much as the technique. It is beginner-level, yes, but it still feels polished, shapely, and styled. The result is a pattern that teaches the fundamentals while giving you something you’ll actually want to finish, lace up, and wear.
