Juliet corset sewing pattern

Juliet is for first-time corset makers who want to learn proper construction without starting at the hardest end of corsetry. You’ll build confidence with two-layer construction, internal boning channels, back lacing, eyelets, bias finishing, and controlled shaping — the core skills that make the rest of the modern corset range easier to approach later. It is beginner-friendly, but it does not feel like a throwaway first project.

Fabric usage

• Outer fabric: 140 cm wide × 58 cm
• Structural coutil: 140 cm wide × 90 cm

Fabric suggestions

Use coutil for the structural layer. That is what gives Juliet its support and stability. For the outer layer, choose a lighter woven fabric that suits the finish you want: cotton, satin, chiffon, or lace all work well when paired with a stable base.

Juliet is especially good for decorative surface work. Because the front is closed and uninterrupted by a busk, you have a clean area for lace appliqué, beading, contrast panelling, trims, or textured fabrics. Embellishment placement is not included in the pattern.

Juliet is available in UK 4–20 / EUR 32–48 / US 0–16. All Ralph Pink sewing patterns are drafted for a dressmaker’s B cup, so fuller busts may need adjustment. Choose your size by comparing your bust, waist, and hip to the chart below. If you fall between sizes, make a toile first and adjust for your shape before sewing your final corset.

If you want a first corset that still feels fashion-led, Juliet is the place to start. The styling nods to stays through the shoulder straps and squared neckline, but the construction stays firmly in the modern Ralph Pink range: cleaner, simpler, and easier to control than a busked historic corset.

The closed front is one of Juliet’s biggest strengths. Instead of designing around a busk, you get an uninterrupted surface for lace appliqué, beading, placement motifs, contrast panels, or fabric texture. It rewards technical focus on the inside and creative freedom on the outside.

Juliet is also a smart step up from a simple waspie. It gives you an overbust shape and a stronger finished look without pushing you straight into the more demanding hardware and construction methods of the historic range. Beginner-level, yes. Flat or forgettable, no.
