Skill level & tips
Skill level: Beginner
Laila is the entry point. It is designed to introduce basic corset construction techniques without overloading the maker with extra hardware, complicated shaping or historic construction details.
You’ll build confidence with the standard two-layer construction used across the modern corset range: a firm coutil layer for structure, a decorative outer layer for style, internal boning channels and bias-bound edges. Master Laila, and you have a much stronger foundation for moving into Grace, Juliet, Bella, Aurora, and eventually the more demanding historic corsets.

Fabric usage & suggestions
Fabric usage:
- Decorative fabric: 140 cm wide × 24 cm
- Structural coutil: 140 cm wide × 45 cm
Fabric suggestions:
Use structural coutil for the strength layer. That is what gives Laila the support and stability it needs, even in such a small shape.
For the outer layer, choose a lightweight fabric that suits the mood you want: cotton, satin, chiffon or lace all work well when paired with a stable corset base. The pattern is simple enough to let the fabric do real work, so this is where colour, texture and embellishment matter.
Laila is especially good for decorative experiments. Try beading, colour-blocked panels, lace, printed cotton, contrast binding or a delicate trim. Lace appliqué and placement instructions are not included in the pattern.

Long description
Laila is the corset pattern you make when you want to stop thinking about corsetry and actually begin. It is small, simple and direct: a waspie-style corset with enough structure to teach the fundamentals, but not so many details that your first build turns into a battle.
The closed front is where Laila earns its keep. No busk, no interruption, no awkward design break. Just a clean little canvas for lace, beading, colour-blocking, trims, prints or whatever fabric you have been waiting for the right project to use.
It is also one of the most useful confidence-builders in the modern corset range. Laila teaches you how a corset comes together: the coutil base, the decorative outer layer, the boning channels, the binding and the final laced shape. Beginner-level, yes. But still polished, still shapely, and still very much worth wearing.
