Marylin twin set sewing pattern

Marylin is a good project if you want to practise details without taking on a large garment. The top keeps the shape simple, while the skirt gives you more to work through: button stand, vent, darts and waistband.

For a classic version, use cotton canvas, cotton linen or crepe. For a brighter summer set, choose colour confidently. This pattern can look polished in neutrals or playful in stronger tones.

Skirt fabric requirements

• Fabric: 140 cm / 55 in wide × 110 cm / 44 in
• Fusible interfacing: 140 cm / 55 in wide × 120 cm / 42 in

The sample is made in medium-weight cotton linen. Use a fabric with enough body to support the bralette shape, hold the skirt cleanly, and keep the button fronts looking sharp.

Choose your size by comparing your bust, waist and hip measurements to the size chart. The bralette uses bust darts for shaping, while the skirt uses front and back darts to define the waist.

All sewing patterns are drafted for a dressmaker’s B cup, so fuller cup sizes may need a full bust adjustment.

Marylin is a twin set with a clean vintage pull.

The bralette keeps the top simple: button front, bust darts, narrow straps and a neat finish without lining. The skirt brings the structure with a pencil shape, front button fly, concealed waistband and centre-back split.

Together, the set sharpens the waist and lengthens the silhouette. Apart, the pieces become easier to work into the rest of the wardrobe: the bralette with trousers or shorts, the skirt with a shirt, vest or softer summer top.

Make it in cotton linen for a relaxed vintage feel. Use crepe for something cleaner. Go bright if you want the set to feel less nostalgic and more playful.
