Phaedra drape sewing pattern

Skill level: Beginner / Intermediate

Phaedra looks more complex than it is, which is part of its appeal. The shape is relaxed, but the curved panel pieces need attention. Cut accurately, mark your pieces clearly, and take your time matching the intersecting curves.

If you are newer to sewing, choose a lightweight fabric that behaves well under the machine. If you are more confident, lean into sheer or slippery fabrics for a softer, more fluid result.

Fabric requirements

• Fabric: 140 cm / 55 in wide × 335 cm / 132 in
• Fusible interfacing: 140 cm / 55 in wide × 100 cm / 40 in

Phaedra works best in floaty, lightweight fabrics. Chiffon gives it a sheer, delicate finish. Crepe satin adds shine and weight. Silk makes it feel more refined. Linen gives the shape a more relaxed summer feel.

The fabric does most of the work here. Choose something that moves well, falls cleanly and makes the drape worth looking at.

Phaedra is available in XS–L / UK 4–18 / EUR 32–46 / US 0–14.

Choose your size by comparing your bust, waist and hip measurements to the size chart. Because this is a draped pattern with a relaxed fit, fabric choice will affect how close, fluid or structured the final garment feels.

All sewing patterns are drafted for a dressmaker’s B cup, so fuller cup sizes may need a full bust adjustment.

Phaedra is a drape pattern with options.

Make it as a dress, a top or a skirt. Keep it sheer and soft in chiffon. Give it more shine in crepe satin. Use silk if you want it to feel more refined, or linen if you want something easier and more relaxed.

The shape falls over the body rather than clinging to it. The panel lines add interest without making the garment feel heavy. It is comfortable, fluid and easy to style, but still has enough construction to feel like a proper project.

This is a good pattern for makers who want movement without fuss. A little cutting accuracy, a little patience around the curves, and a finished piece that looks far more effortless than the work behind it.
