Your first historic corset
Sieger is based on a late 19th century Swiss riding corset. It adds a steel busk and spiral steel boning, but no piping, so it is the easiest step into historic corsetry.

Skill level & tips
Skill level: Intermediate
Sieger is an intermediate corset sewing pattern for sewists with some experience in corset construction, structured sewing or careful garment fitting. It is still a historic corset, so expect more precision than a modern beginner pattern, but it is also the simplest historic corset in the Ralph Pink collection, making it the strongest transition point for makers who are ready to move up.
You’ll build confidence with a steel busk, internal boning channels, spiral steel boning, laced back fitting and bias-bound finishing. It is more demanding than Laila, Grace or Juliet, but that is the point. Sieger gives you a proper taste of historic corsetry without asking you to take on piping-heavy or externally boned construction straight away.

Fabric usage & suggestions
Fabric usage:
- Decorative fabric: 140 cm wide × 38 cm
- Structural coutil: 140 cm wide × 57 cm
Fabric suggestions:
Use structural coutil for the base layer. Historic corsets rely on structure, and coutil gives Sieger the strength and stability it needs to hold its shape properly.
For the outer layer, choose a decorative fabric that can show off the silhouette without becoming bulky. Satin gives it polish. Lace softens the look. Cotton keeps it crisp. Brocade or decorative net can make it feel richer and more period-informed.
The original sample direction uses black satin with fine polka-dot Devoré net on the front and back panels, which is a strong route if you want texture without overwhelming the corset.
Keep the outer layer elegant rather than heavy. Sieger works best when the fabric supports the shape instead of fighting it.

Sizing and fit
Sieger is available in UK 4–20 / EUR 32–48 / US 0–16. Choose your size by comparing your bust, waist and hip measurements to the size chart. If you fall between sizes, make a toile first and adjust for your shape before cutting into your final fabric.
Historic corsets are more structured than the modern range and may create stronger shaping through the waist, bust and hip. A toile is not busywork here. It is part of the build. Test the fit, check the busk position, check the lacing gap and make sure the corset sits where you want it before committing to the final version.

Long description
Sieger is the historic corset for makers who are ready to stop circling the idea and actually begin.
This riding corset sewing pattern has the ingredients that make historic corsetry feel serious: a steel busk, spiral steel boning, structured coutil, laced back fitting and a period-informed silhouette, but it does not overwhelm the maker with every advanced technique at once.
That is its strength. Sieger is not the loudest pattern in the historic range. It is the doorway in.
The shape is clean, elegant and quietly confident. Inspired by a late 19th-century Swiss riding corset, it has enough structure to feel genuinely different from the modern collection, but enough restraint to make the build feel achievable.
Satin makes it sharp. Lace makes it romantic. Brocade makes it rich. A fine decorative net gives it texture without losing the line.
This is the corset you choose when you want more than a beginner project, but you still want a clear path through the work. Every part of the build teaches something useful: the busk, the channels, the binding, the lacing and the way the body changes once the structure is doing its job.
Intermediate, yes. Intimidating? Not if you are ready for the next step.
Sieger is where historic corsetry starts to feel possible, and worth it.
