Roxi dress sewing pattern

Skill level: Beginner / Intermediate

Roxi is approachable if you are confident working with stretch fabric. The sewing itself is not fussy, but the fabric matters. Use a fine one-way or two-way stretch jersey, handle it evenly, and avoid stretching the seams as you sew.

A double layer gives the dress a cleaner finish and better coverage. The concealed seams keep the inside neater. Make a quick mock-up first if you are testing stretch, length or fit, especially if your jersey is lighter, heavier or more fluid than expected.

Fabric requirement

Stretch jersey: 140 cm / 56 in wide × 360 cm / 142 in

Use stretch jersey with enough drape to fall cleanly through the body. A fine jersey will give Roxi its softer maxi-dress movement. A slightly heavier jersey will make the silhouette feel more controlled.

Stripes and prints can work well, but choose them with the length, split and batwing sleeve shape in mind. This is a dress that can go quiet or dramatic depending on the fabric.

• 25 cm / 10 in of 1 cm / 3/8 in wide lingerie elastic
• Stretch jersey fabric
• Matching thread

• 3 or 4-thread overlocker / serger
• Sewing machine

Roxi is available in UK 4–22 / EUR 32–50 / US 0–18.

Choose your size by comparing your bust, waist and hip measurements to the size chart. If you fall between sizes, make a mock-up first and check the stretch, length and fit before cutting your final fabric.

All sewing patterns are drafted for a dressmaker’s B cup, so fuller cup sizes may need a full bust adjustment.

Roxi is the stretch maxi dress that does not need much to make an entrance.

The shape is long and fluid, with a boat neck at the front, a scoop back, soft batwing sleeves and a thigh split that keeps the dress moving. It is simple enough to wear often, but the proportions stop it from feeling plain.

Make it in a fine jersey for softness and drape. Use a darker stretch fabric for a cleaner evening look. Try stripes or a print if you want the length and sleeve shape to do more.

This is a good pattern for makers who like impact without overworking the details. Stretch fabric. Long line. Clean finish. Done well.
