Sula jacket sewing pattern

Skill level: Intermediate

Sula is for makers ready to take on a bigger jacket project with more visible detail. The construction is not overloaded, but the sleeve panelling, lapels, lining and faux jetted pockets all need clean handling.

For a simpler version, remove the faux jetted pockets or the chevron sleeve detailing. You will keep the oversized jacket shape while reducing the more technical steps.

Fabric requirements

• Main fabric: 140 cm / 55 in wide × 175 cm / 70 in
• Fusible interfacing: 140 cm / 55 in wide × 86 cm / 37 in
• Lining: 140 cm / 55 in wide × 122 cm / 48 in

Use medium-weight satin if you want a softer drape. Choose suiting wool or crepe for a more structured blazer feel. A medium to heavyweight stable woven will give the cleanest result if you want the jacket to hold its oversized shape.

Sula is available in UK 8–16 / EUR 36–44 / US 4–12.

Choose your size by comparing your bust, waist and hip measurements to the size chart. Because Sula is oversized, think about how you want to wear it: choose your usual size for the intended relaxed shape, or check the finished proportions if you want a neater fit.

All sewing patterns are drafted for a dressmaker’s B cup, so fuller cup sizes may need a full bust adjustment.

Sula is a jacket pattern with volume, edge and a tailored reference point.

The wide rolled lapels give the front its attitude. The chevron sleeve seams add movement and direction. The faux jetted pockets and princess lines bring the blazer influence back in, while the oversized shape keeps everything relaxed.

Make it in satin if you want softness and drape. Use suiting wool or crepe if you want the jacket to feel sharper. Choose a stable medium-weight woven if you want the details to stay clean and the shape to hold.

This is a good project for makers who want outerwear with impact, but not the stiffness of a classic tailored blazer.
