A quick neck corset project
Volante is a plunging neck corset with shoulder caps and arcing back panels. It is one size and quick to make. Wear it with a corset, with lingerie or on its own.
At a glance
Volante teaches corset accessory construction through a compact, sculptural shape. It keeps the project small, but the styling impact is not small at all: a plunging front, shoulder caps, arcing back panels and internal boning channels that give the piece structure without turning it into a full corset build.
If you want a quick project that still looks like a design decision, Volante is the one.

Skill level & tips
Skill level: Beginner/Intermediate
Volante is a good next step if you want to explore corset construction on a smaller scale. The pattern gives you internal boning channels, structural coutil, decorative outer fabric and bias-bound finishing, but without the size, fitting demands or long build time of a full corset.
It is approachable enough for confident beginners and interesting enough for intermediate makers who want a fast accessory project with real styling power. The small scale makes it a strong place to practise clean finishing, controlled structure and decorative fabric choices before moving into more ambitious corset work.

Fabric usage & suggestions
Fabric usage:
- Decorative fabric: 140 cm wide × 24 cm
- Structural coutil: 140 cm wide × 24 cm
Fabric suggestions:
Use structural coutil for the strength layer. Even though Volante is small, it still needs a stable base so the shape holds properly across the neck, shoulder and upper chest.
For the outer layer, choose a lightweight fabric that gives the accessory the mood you want. Satin gives it polish. Lace makes it softer and more delicate. Mesh keeps it sharp and modern. Cotton works if you want a cleaner sample or more graphic finish.
Volante is also a strong use-up-the-special-fabric project. Because the yardage is small, this is the place for a scrap of satin, Devoré net, lace, embroidered mesh or a dramatic contrast fabric that deserves its own moment.

Sizing & fit
Volante is a one-size neck corset accessory. The fit is designed to work as a stylised upper-body piece rather than a fitted bodice or waist-shaping corset.
Because it sits around the neck, shoulders and upper chest, check the shape in a toile first if you are adjusting the neckline depth, shoulder coverage or back fit. The smaller scale makes it quick to test, and a quick toile will help you decide whether you want the final version to sit closer, softer or more dramatically across the body.

Long description
It is a neck corset accessory with a plunging front, shaped shoulders and arcing back panels, the kind of piece that can change the whole mood of a look without asking you to build an entire bodice. Small project, big silhouette.
The construction gives you real corset detail in a compact format. Coutil gives the base structure. The decorative layer sets the tone. Internal boning channels help the piece hold its shape. Bias binding finishes the edges cleanly. The result is sharp, stylised and far more interesting than a simple collar or harness.
Volante is also one of the most useful styling pieces in the modern range. Pair it with a waspie, layer it over lingerie, use it with a matching corset, or make it as a standalone accessory when you want the outfit to look more deliberate. It is simple enough to finish quickly, but strong enough to make everything around it look more designed.
Beginner/intermediate, yes. Background piece? Absolutely not.
